A Cause for Celebration

I suspect most of us have a literal or metaphorical cupboard where we have consigned several tasks that we will deal with one day when we have time. If you have not managed them in the last twelve months perhaps it is time to be kind to yourself and enjoy the release in accepting they are simply never going to be important enough. Let them go!

More satisfying though, are those tasks we have been able to tackle. A long time ago, I sat down with a colleague, Juliet Heacock, and we thought we could set out the essence of our training work, helping people have consistently useful conversation. Feedback is always very personal, but there are common themes and a few core techniques. It got complicated though and the text went through various iterations as months became years.

What has changed now is not only that we have had the time to complete our text, but also that we have become excited by the technical opportunities in communication. These have been there for a while, but their use and familiarity have been accelerated by the enforced need to communicate at a distance. What might have been a book is now finding a more natural home in more interactive media. It has been a discovery for me that as the way information is presented loops back into the nature of the content, technical innovation is a creative stimulus.

Regret it or embrace it, change has been accelerated. You can resent that things are different or look for the opportunities. For example, we are all now familiar with remote meetings. You can focus on a loss of personal contact and some informal chat, or be excited that it is now commonplace not just to be in another building, but to be in another country. We can marshal resources with new ambition, which incidentally, is one step closer to my goal of earning money while sitting on the beach.

With our project, cracking conversation, our journey has been transformed by new opportunities. We are looking for ever more ways to share the content. If you are interested in what we are up to, get in touch and start a conversation,
